Int. Studio/Seminar: Bridge Project 4 – Catalyst Prototypes & Promos

When coming up with an idea for my Catalyst Project, I was challenged with creating something that could bring about change. One of the brainstorming techniques I used was thinking of a problem that I currently faced and creating something that would solve this problem.

Recently I have run into a streak of perpetually loosing my wallet. Whether it is leaving it in a cab, it falling out of my pocket, or just forgetting where I last put it, loosing my wallet has become a stressing part of my life. Loosing your wallet is especially difficult because you must take the time to call and cancel each of your credit cards, your debit cards, your loyalty cards, your insurance card, and many other essential items. One item that is difficult to replace is your drivers license / ID.

Technological steps have been to electronically make payments allowing you to leave your debit and credit cards at home, but what about the other important items you need with you.

I wish to create a digital form of your drivers license/ID.

Let’s say you jump in the car to run to the store and get some milk. On your way the police pull you over for a broken tail light and ask for license and registration. Uh oh, you left your drivers license at home and all you have to identify yourself is pulling up your Facebook page.

In comes the MeID app. With your mobile phone and the MeID app you will always have your drivers license / ID with you.

Not only would the MeID store an electronic copy of your driver’s license, it would also have an electronic passport, emergency medical information, and insurance pages.

This app provides you with an electronic, “un-loosable” version of your most important pieces of documentation.

I roughly sketched what I thought the app might be like –

After analyzing and developing my idea further, I expanded it from just an identification app, to a passport, emergency medical information, insurance information app. I named it MeID. To bring MeID to life, I created more detailed images using photoshop and Illustrator.

Lastly, I began to think about ways this app could be marketed. Who would be my target audience? I came to the conclusion that everyone could benefit from this app. My target audience is anyone who forgot their wallet running a quick errand, anyone who looses their wallet in taxis, anyone who has been in an accident and needs to provide emergency information. In my mind, an app this important is worth world-wide news. Rather than a commercial, I chose to make a mock E! News report about a fictional (yet plausible) instance where the MeID app was “news worthy”.

This video posed somewhat of a challenge for me. Lacking knowledge in Premiere Pro, I learned to create titles, credits, cuts, video transitions, and audio layers.
